Richard Dawson – Farewell to Surrey Gig

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer; Rich Dawson, gained prominence as part of writing duo Cardboard Carousel, along with his wife Calliopi Dawson, performing across London and the South East, supporting acts such as Martin Harley and touring South Africa before Calli stepped back from live performances. While they are still collaborators, Rich has been experimenting with a new sound as a solo performer, drawing from his influences of indie-folk, blues-rock and neo-classical to create a moving and dynamic atmospheric experience.

Rich produces and creates the music for Lectio365; a prayer and meditation app that has recently celebrated 2 million downloads. As part of his work for Lectio365, in 2023 he documented a pilgrimage from the Isle of Iona to the Island of Lindisfarne. Along the way, he turned his prayers into songs and unintentionally created two albums; Pilgrim Songs (Bootleg Edition) which was taken from the raw video recordings documenting the pilgrimage, and Pilgrim Songs (Studio Edition) which was expanded to include more songs taken from his journal entries and recorded at his home a few months later. 

Rich, Calli and their daughter will be moving later this year to the south coast of Devon. This show marks his final performance as a Surrey resident. Considering the team behind the Fiery Bird were the first to give him and Calli a place to perform in Woking some 14 years ago, it is the perfect place for his farewell. He is currently workshopping his next album; Where Colours Bleed which he will be showcasing at Fiery Bird, alongside his Pilgrim Songs works.

Kat Moore has been singing for as long as she can remember. From her early years singing along with her mum at home to the Jackson 5, to her joining school choirs performing medleys of the Supremes, to leading worship at various churches; music and singing has always been an inescapable part of her life. Singer-songwriter folk artists that tell stories, especially more contemporary spiritual artists like Josh Garrels and Jess Ray have been the most influential for her.

As music has been her ever-present companion, each song she has produced has been born out of her lived experience reflecting both the highs and the lows of the various stages of her journey. Honesty, authenticity, and passion are words often used to describe her songs and are a reflection of a deep faith and spirituality that fuels her creativity.

Originally from California, Kat has lived in Leatherhead, Surrey for the past 19 years where she helps to lead a local church and is well and truly embedded in the local community.
